Today I am posting The Pretenders song "I'll Stand By You" in honor of our dog's 4th birthday! Allie is 45 lbs of warm fuzzies and marshmallow fluff. When she looks at me with her sad puppy eyes I can't help but sing the first line of this song "Oh, why you look so sad?" at her...followed by the rest of the song, of course.
It is important to honor Allie's place in our family as a loyal companion. She gravitates towards people who are feeling ill or sad in order to comfort them, and it is so good for us humans to pet warm fuzzy things.

My daughter Alex had the opportunity to attend a track meet recently for 5th and 6th grade students in theSan Juan Unified School District.
What is meant to be an introduction to competitive track and field
events turned in to a demonstration of how compassionate, supportive,
and kind children can be to their peers.
of the children participating in the event ranged from moderately to
extremely athletic in their running abilities.
This week in Alex's band class they had to perform solos in front of the rest of the class. Alex is an amazing baritone player, but she is not a fan of playing in front of non-family members. She did really well in class (of course!) and her band teacher asked her to perform at Sacramento State University for a solo competition. Alex was not sure she wanted to do this--she was letting her stage fright get the best of her. I remembered my own 7th grade experience singing a solo in choir, and then having to go compete at the solo and ensemble competition, as well.
Hello Dear Readers!
While I am not such a fan of her voice or her public persona, I LOVE Miley Cyrus's song "The Climb" and I feel like this sums up my personal drive to tackle goals and overcome obstacles. And it is also a favorite because it is right in my vocal range, so I get to rock out! The girls enjoy this one, as well.
My favorite lines:
"The struggles I'm facing, the chances I'm taking, sometimes might knock me down but, no I'm not breaking" because no matter what obstacles life gives me, they are not bigger or stronger than I am.
