Wonder

Hello Dear Readers!

Natalie Merchant is simply beautiful. Her appearance, her clothes, her voice—are understated and natural, and beautiful. I really enjoy her song “Wonder” because it helps me to imagine what it would truly be like to be famous and subjected to the opinions of so many others, including people who really have no idea who you are at the core. It also helps me to understand how strong a celebrity’s personal boundaries must be so that they can be tough enough to keep out unwanted influences. Some of our younger celebrities could take a lesson from Natalie Merchant, and it might help avoid acting out like shaving heads or indulging in drugs and alcohol binges.

My favorite lines:
"Newspapers ask intimate questions, want confessions; reach into my head to steal the glory of my story" because the celebrity media really is SO INTRUSIVE! Creative artists who are more sensitive can be devastated by this type of pressure, and it is important for us (as non-famous people) to recognize that celebrities are just people like us. They don’t want the world to know all their secrets

"People see me, I'm a challenge to your balance; I'm over your heads, how I confound you and astound you" because I love it when people break out of stereotypes!
I love to root for the underdog and watch him or her prove all the haters wrong.
I love it when a nerdy engineer with glasses and a pocket protector breaks out into an awesome break dance; or a tattooed and pierced ruffian cuddles a puppy.
It’s a great reminder that we cannot judge a book by its cover!

Your thoughts?
<3,
Jen

Lyrics

Doctors have come from distant cities
Just to see me
Stand over my bed
Disbelieving what they're seeing

They say I must be one of the wonders
Of god's own creation
And as far as they can see they can offer
No explanation

Newspapers ask intimate questions
Want confessions
They reach into my head
To steal the glory of my story

They say I must be one of the wonders
Of god's own creation
And as far as they can see they can offer
No explanation

O, I believe
Fate smiled and destiny
Laughed as she came to my cradle
Know this child will be able
Laughed as my body she lifted
Know this child will be gifted
With love, with patience and with faith
She'll make her way

People see me
I'm a challenge to your balance
I'm over your heads
How I confound you and astound you
To know I must be one of the wonders
Of god's own creation
And as far as you can see you can offer me
No explanation

O, I believe
Fate smiled and destiny
Laughed as she came to my cradle
Know this child will be able
Laughed as she came to my mother
Know this child will not suffer
Laughed as my body she lifted
Know this child will be gifted
With love, with patience and with faith
She'll make her way
